Identifier son chat

Identifier son animal:

In France the identification of domestic carnivores (i.e. dog, cat and ferret) is OBLIGATORY and this since 1999 for dogs from the age of 4 months and for cats over 7 months.

In addition, the law stipulates that identification is mandatory, before any transfer (whether it is free of charge or for a fee) and that it is then the responsibility of the person transferring the animal.

Beyond the legal aspect, the identification of your pet is PRIMARY because it is the only official proof that you are the owner and it allows you to be found in the event of loss or theft of your pet.

Your pet can be identified with a electronic transponder approved, more commonly known as an electronic "chip". The size of a grain of rice, this insert is placed under the skin at the level of the neck to the left of the animal and its placement does not require sedation (except in special cases).

The tattoo is also authorized and will be carried out under general anesthesia on the internal face of the ear or the thigh.

The identification number assigned to your animal will then be unique and managed by an official national organization called I-Cad which centralizes the contact details of pet owners in France.

Unless otherwise specified, only veterinarians are authorized to identify pets.
Attention, to be able to travel abroad with your animal, this one will have to be identified by microchip. Identification by tattoo remains valid for travel within Europe (except in the specific case of Ireland, Malta, United Kingdom, Sweden and Finland) if this was done before July 3, 2011, and subject to that it is well readable. If the identification is after July 3, 2011, only the electronic chip will be valid.
(see the formalities on the site: AniVetTravel)

To travel outside Europe, it is necessary to inquire beforehand with the embassy of the country.
(see our page: Go abroad with your pet)
The identification of other pets (rabbit, guinea pig, chinchilla...) is not mandatory but highly recommended.

On the other hand, it is mandatory to identify tortoises, as these are not considered as a pet but as wildlife that has become captive. Their identification is managed by theI-Fap.
