In France the identification of domestic carnivores (i.e. dog, cat and ferret) is OBLIGATORY
and this since 1999 for dogs from the age of 4 months and since 2012 for cats over 7 months.
In addition, the law stipulates that identification is mandatory, before any transfer (whether it is free of charge or for a fee) and that it is then the responsibility of the person transferring the animal.
Beyond the legal aspect, the identification of your pet is PRIMARY because it is the only official proof that you are the owner and it allows you to be found in the event of loss or theft of your pet.

approved, more commonly known as an electronic "chip". The size of a grain of rice, this insert is placed under the skin at the level of the neck to the left of the animal and its placement does not require sedation (except in special cases).

Unless otherwise specified, only veterinarians are authorized to identify pets.
Attention, to be able to travel abroad with your animal, this one will have to be identified by microchip. Identification by tattoo remains valid for travel within Europe (except in the specific case of Ireland, Malta, United Kingdom, Sweden and Finland) if this was done before July 3, 2011, and subject to that it is well readable. If the identification is after July 3, 2011, only the electronic chip will be valid.
